My 20 year old cat was diagnosed with renal failure 3 years ago. My vet recommended this product and I wasn't sure it would do any good but was willing to try anything. At my cat's yearly review his blood tests had improved significantly and my vet said it was down to the food. So it was worthwhile persevering as he wasn't keen on the food at first. Now he eats the beef, chicken and tuna flavours. VetUK is the only website I have found that sells in packs of 12, most insist on minimum order of 48 of the same flavour which means my cat wouldn't be able to enjoy the variety of flavours.

This is the only renal food my 18 year old cat will eat. Her favourite is the beef but she will eat them all as long as I vary the flavours from day to day. I like the fact that VetUK sell these in a relatively small number of pouches - 12, so I can vary the flavours.

My two 20-year old Burmese have been on Renal wet and dry for around two years since the diagnosis of kidney failure. Having a tendency to prefer fish, they enjoy the Tuna flavour more than the meat flavours. In the early days, one of my cats wouldn't eat the pouches unless I mashed up the cubes but he's now gotten used to it and eats straight from the packet. Overall, both of my cats love it and I wish I'd switched onto it sooner. I read another review regarding the smell of the food but in my experience the Tuna flavour doesn't smell half as bad as regular cat food pouches (and my young 2-year old cat enjoys his Felix pouches daily).

My 15 yr old Tonkinese cat, suffering from CRF, has never looked back since he has been fed on this food. He isn't keen on the Tuna wet food, and eats the biscuits only when he's finished off the wet food in his dish, and like others doesn't like eating any that's been left out for too long. And the delivery is second to none, always arriving within the pre-arranged time. Thank you VETUK for a fantastic service.

My 15 year old cat was diagnosed with kidney disease over 3 years ago and thanks to this food is still going strong. He's not always keen to eat it on it's own and only likes the chicken flavour, but mixed with the dry food he loves it. I have 4 other cats who are quite young, but they also like it, especially the dry food, so there is generally a long queue behind him and his bowl to see if there are any leftovers!!! I think Vet uk is even better now that you only have to spend £19 to qualify for free delivery.

all above comments are same as i found, mine loves all 3 flavours, and surprisingly Hills KD dry biscuits rather than royal canin KD as treat, has put on weight, can now jump on a chair again, more alert, less sleep in day, happier but wont eat wet pouch food if been in dish some hours has to be fresh.

My cat was diagnosed with early stages of CRF and the vet recommended this food. The following blood tests after 1 and 2 years came very close to normal so it does work as it's supposed to! As someone mentioned, yes it does smell unpleasant, but the health of my cat comes before whatever small inconveniences this food might have. From time to time he gets bored of the flavours, typical spoiled moggy, but a sprinkle of the dry variety on top gets his appetite going again. DPD delivery is also fantastic, very quick and accommodating!

My Burmese was at death's door 5 years ago - chronic renal failure, wouldn't eat anything, I thought he was going to die. For some reason he took to the Tuna flavour, and he's never looked back. 5 years on, he's just had a dental under anaesthetic and his bloods are very good for his age (18yrs). He will only eat the Tuna though, and I add a little extra water to the dish - put water in first then food on top, as they may not like the diluted taste on the food. It's expensive but it's good stuff. I don't give him the dry biscuits because he's prone to constipation, probably caused by the CRF and his age. My vet said it's down to the Royal Canin renal that he's here today, it's amazing stuff!

I have five cats! Two of them require a renal diet and the Royal Canin Veterinary Renal Feline food is the ONLY renal food they will eat!(My other cats also like it very much so feeding time can often be comical!) Other reviews have commented on the smell - it does have a strong smell but so do many other wet cat foods and to be honest the food isn't in the bowls long enough for the smell to cause any problems. I have found that feeding the cats with only half a pouch at a time is better and stops them from gorging and making themselves sick. The diet has helped both of my cat's renal conditions (they both have different complaints)and both cats are thriving on this food. They like the Royal Canin feline dried food aswell but because they need to be encouraged to take in a lot more fluids I tend to stick to the wet food and give the dried food as a treat.

When the vet recommended this for my ageing cat after distressing episodes of cystitis, I was sure she would refuse it but she loved all 3 varieties from the start. I was also concerned about the price compared to ordinary pouches but have been pleasantly surprised because a) she eats it all every time so there is no waste b)there seems to be a lot more food in these pouches than in ordinary cat food pouches and c) she only eats 2 pouches per day. I have seen no episodes of the cystitis and frantic straining in the litter tray since she has been on these pouches.

My 18 year old loves this and so do the two strays I feed. Although I try hard to keep it away from them, sometimes they get to it before I can move it!
It's the best of the renal foods I've tried - Eukanuba and Hill's. It looks more like the cat food he's been used to eating and isn't a paste like the other two brands.
I think it smells fine - I haven't even noticed a smell from it, to be honest. The customer service Royal Canin provides is also absolutely wonderful.

The best kidney diet food we have found so far. Its great that it comes in 3 flavours as our cat needs variety.

Cat prefers this to the kd meat from hills, although he only really seems to enjoy the gravy part and occasionally eats the meat, chicken being the flavour he doesn't like. However he is on a mixed diet, so eats the hills kd biscuits throughout the day and this once a day. Highly recommended for cats with kidney problems, since out of all the meat products, this is the one he prefers.

The product does work for our old cat of 17 that cannot eat any other types of food. The only negative comment about this product is the smell it is vial it stinks you can smell it all over the house. We have to apologise to visitors if she is eating at the time and have to quickly cover it up as soon as she has finished thus making it difficult to leave it uncovered for her to eat when she likes.

This is one of the only "prescription" food my cat seems to enjoy eating, fantastic in my book.
